About The Retreat
“Anāhata Nāda is the unstruck sound, the sound of silence, the sound of the void. You can hear it, but you cannot tell what it is. You cannot miss it, but you cannot make any sense of it. It is that which transforms the world of the senses back into the cosmos or pure energy.”
Shri Brahmanada Sarasvati in his text, “Nāda Yoga”
The beginning…
The Sadhana, Sound & Silence Retreat was born in 2021 in response to a heartfelt call from the community for a yogic retreat during a time when such offerings were difficult to find in the Texas Hill Country. Along with the desire to gather, there was a clear request for something rare and potent: a retreat held entirely in Silence.
When Nam Joti Kaur Khalsa chose to answer this call, it was essential that the retreat be rooted in three foundational pillars—simple, ancient, and transformative:
Sadhana — a daily spiritual practice held during the Amrit Vela, the sacred hours before sunrise, when the mind is quiet and the nervous system most receptive.
Sound — immersion in sacred sound through gong, singing bowls, mantra, and other instruments, used as technologies for healing, awareness, and attunement.
Silence — the conscious silence of the participants, creating spaciousness for deep introspection, presence, and inner listening.
From this clarity of intention, the Sadhana, Sound & Silence Retreat took form.
The retreat has been held each year in Wimberley, Texas—a gentle river town nestled within the juniper forests of the Texas Hill Country. This land offers a natural stillness that supports the practices, inviting participants into a slower rhythm aligned with the earth and the breath.
The retreat is led by Nam Joti Kaur Khalsa, alongside a small, dedicated team of Sevadars serving in devotion to the Yogic teachings and the community. In 2026, we are honored to once again welcome Siri Bahadur Khalsa as a guest teacher, adding depth and continuity to the lineage of this offering.
In April 2026, we celebrate the fourth year of bringing the Sadhana, Sound & Silence Retreat to our community—an ongoing invitation to return to what is essential, timeless, and already whole within.
